ParkSense® Rear Park Assist System
The ParkSense® Rear Park Assist System[1] uses sound waves to detect nearby obstacles in and near the rear path of the vehicle to help you maneuver in tight spaces at parking speeds. Audio-visual indicators in the overhead display in the rear of the vehicle alert you to the proximity of most larger, stationary objects that might be outside your line of sight. []

Crash Test Ratings
There's safety in numbers—and the Nitro comes up big. 2008 Dodge Nitro SXT earned a five-star crash-test rating—NHTSA's highest government ratings for both front & side crash rating.[2]

Braking
Nitro's standard four-wheel-disc antilock brake system (ABS) with brake assist helps prevent wheel lockup for shorter stopping distances and improved control under extreme braking or slippery conditions. Tough and rugged calipers clamp down on big-time discs made from high-carbon damped iron for quiet, fade-free stopping power.

Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
Electronic Stability Program[3] is designed to assist drivers in maintaining control of their vehicles during extreme steering maneuvers. ESP senses when a vehicle is starting to spin (oversteer) or plow (understeer), and attempts to correct the vehicle's course by automatically controlling the throttle and applying the brakes at individual wheels.
